Sir Harry Oakes Chateau / Museum of Northern History

The Sir Harry Oakes Chateau is a wonderfully restored mansion and is recognized by the Ontario Heritage Foundation. The cradftmanship is extraordinary. The museum features many exhibits that high light Kirkland Lake's past and present. Visitors of all ages love the ambiance and displays. Be sure to spend extra time in Nancy's room where the magnificent plaster work features animals, scenery and more. Other displays focus on mining, geology, famous Kirkland Lakers, antiques, taxidermy and more! There is something for everyone at the Chateau. Don't forget to check out the gift shop where you will find the perfect souvinier!

Miners Memorial

The Miners Memorial is a tribute to Miner's who lived and worked in the Kirkland Lake area. Every aspect of the monument is authentic from the equipment worn by the miners to the bolts used to contruct it. Beside the monument is a granite memorial listing the names of every Miner who lost their lives working in our mines. It is an amazing piece of art that is a must see on any visit to Kirkland Lake!

The Toburn Mine

The Toburn Mine Property at the east entrance to Kirkland Lake is a site that has great historical significance. The Toburn was the first operating mine in the Kirkland Lake camp. The Northern Prospectors Association has acquired the property from the Crown and has entered into an agreement with the Town to operate the site by volunteer committee. The site is run as a not-for-profit operation with historical displays that highlight the rich mining history of Kirkland Lake.

Swastika Fireman's Park

The Swastika Fireman's Park is a great place to spend some time if you are travelling with little ones! Northern species of ducks are plentiful and expect to be fed, so don't forget the bread. Children love to play on the replica of a steam engine built and maintained by the volunteer firefighters, The park also features great walking trails that take you from the duck pond, across the river and through a lovely park area. The picnic tables, stone BBQs and wonderful gazebo make thie park perfect for picnics!

Snowmobiler Paradise

With over 300km of pristine groomed trails, the Kirkland Lake area is a snowmobilers paradise. The town is sledder friendly with sledding permitted on the majortiy of town streets. The Comfort Inn is directly accessible by sled with parking right outside your door!
